Onno Dwars is a prominent figure in sustainability and real estate development, currently serving as the CEO of Ballast Nedam Development. Under his leadership, the company has committed to groundbreaking changes, including the decision to build homes that are no longer connected to natural gas. This historic shift reflects Onno’s dedication to sustainability and innovative building practices.

Before becoming CEO, Onno held several key positions at Ballast Nedam Development, including Director and Commercial Director. His mission has always been to develop sustainable buildings and infrastructure through direct and open dialogue with customers and partners, supported by a smart approach to cost-efficiency, technology, global expertise, and operational excellence. Onno values the expertise, passion, and entrepreneurial spirit of his employees, fostering a dynamic and inspiring work environment with challenging projects.

He serves on various advisory boards and councils, including the Dutch Green Building Council, NL Greenlabel, and the Economic Board of Utrecht. Additionally, he chairs the OSKA team at NEN, focusing on biodiversity and nature-inclusive building, and is part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality’s “Business and Biodiversity” advisory group.

He is also part of the National Climate Platform, working to connect practical experiences from citizens, businesses, and societal institutions with policy to accelerate the transition to a zero-emissions economy and society. Leading the “Nature-inclusive Construction Agenda 2.0” for the Dutch government, Onno aims to integrate nature into all aspects of construction and development.
